چکیده

*Information provided by author. MAIN RESULTS Analysis was by intention to treat. The groups did not differ for growth outcomes or major developmental abnormalities (table), or worst retinopathy (p = 0.34). However, the higher target group had higher rates of dependence on supplemental oxygen at 36 weeks PA (table) and spent more days on oxygen (median 40 v 17.5 d, p,0.001) than those in the standard target group.

The Effect of Plastic Cover on Regulation of Vital Signs in Preterm Infants: A Randomized Cross-over Clinical Trial

Background: Considering the susceptibility of preterm infants to disturbances of vital signs, this study was conducted to investigate the effects of using plastic covers on regulation of vital signs in preterm neonates. Methods: This randomized, cross-over, clinical trial was carried out on 80 preterm infants admitted to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Taleghani Hospital, Tabriz, Iran.

Background and Objective: The results of previous studies show the neonate position is effective in improving oxygenation . Therefore, this study aimed to compare the prone and supine positions on oxygen saturation in preterm infants who were weaned from mechanical ventilation. Materials and Methods: This clinical trial carried out on 40 preterm infants who were weaned from mechan...

High or low oxygen saturation for the preterm baby.

The observational study by Tin et al 1 of outcome related to oxygen saturation in infants of less than 28 weeks gestation from a number of disparate units in the Northern Region shows results that are interesting, but only from the point of hypothesis generation. Monitoring of oxygen saturation is simple but not without problems. 3 Setting aside whether preterm infants requiring additional oxyg...

Oxygen Supplementation to Stabilize Preterm Infants in the Fetal to Neonatal Transition: No Satisfactory Answer

Fetal life elapses in a relatively low oxygen environment. Immediately after birth with the initiation of breathing, the lung expands and oxygen availability to tissue rises by twofold, generating a physiologic oxidative stress. However, both lung anatomy and function and the antioxidant defense system do not mature until late in gestation, and therefore, very preterm infants often need respira...

Oxygen saturation and outcomes in preterm infants.

BACKGROUND The clinically appropriate range for oxygen saturation in preterm infants is unknown. Previous studies have shown that infants had reduced rates of retinopathy of prematurity when lower targets of oxygen saturation were used. METHODS In three international randomized, controlled trials, we evaluated the effects of targeting an oxygen saturation of 85 to 89%, as compared with a rang...
